Based on the idea that the concept of "ethnic identity" is a social construct and not a given, we will question whether its is relevant to talk about "Hittite identity". We will dispute the notion that Hittite identity originates from ethnicity. Considering the way in which Hittites designate themselves and others, foreigners, we will try to demonstrate that if there is indeed a Hittite identity, it relies on historico-political categories.
