Even though his figure conceals Near Eastern features, Daidalus possesses many same characteristics as the Indian god Varuṇa (relations with the “other world”, the Sun, the West, war and sovereignity (rājasūya); use of the ax, of a deluding technical mind, of astronomy and hot water). The presence of Indo-Europeans components seems indisputable in Daedalus’ legend.
