The Ligyes. A forgotten people in Ancient Anatolia

The Ligyes mentioned by Herodotus in Anatolia is one of the forgotten unsolved problems of the ethnolinguistic history of Ancient Anatolia. Although the lack of sources does not allow a solution, this paper argues that the migration of people from Italia and surrounding regions to the east as part of the Sea Peoples phenomenon provides a fitting historical-geographical framework for their origins and explains why the Greek name of the Anatolian Ligyes is identical to the Greek name of the Ligurians.
