In French. — Ancient Egypt, without our being really aware of it, is present in our daily world through strong and multiple images, as well as through the phenomenon of Egyptomania. Whether decorative elements, advertisements or historical reconstitutions, instantly recognizable icons synthesize and personify all of Egyptian antiquity. Nefertiti and Tutankhamun, having acquired an enviable place as universal icons over the course of the 20th century, thus concentrate through a single representation both their own identity and an evocation of all of ancient Egypt. It is interesting to understand how these two textbook cases, which are not without similarities, arrived at such a position. Although both originated from archaeological exacavations, their appearance on the modern media scene occurred under relatively different circumstances. Why are Nefertiti and Tutankhamun so frequently used on Exlibris (bookplates), by almost unchanging representations?
